Closing the loop within hotfill and thin wall packaging solutions.
In this paper we will discuss the current scene for circular food packaging today and how it is changing with the adoption of new materials and technologies. We will explain the term “state-of-the art PET recycling” and discuss challenges that the thin wall packaging industry is facing. To meet those challenges we will introduce Akestra™, a packaging solution that will support the circular economy goals of the industry.
Akestra™ enables an expanded use of recycled PET by upgrading the PET to an Akestra™ circular PET food packaging solution. This solution can replace approximately 100,000 tons of virgin fossil polystyrene (PS) plastic that is used every year in hot-fill food applications across Europe, reducing the annual CO₂ emissions associated with the packaging material ideally by up to 70% or in net numbers 375 000 tons of emissions per year, cradle to grave.
